The American political system is an upside down pyramid. Even though the size of the federal government has increased dramatically since the 1930s, most Americans feel a greater emotional attachment to the courthouse than to the White House. Local educational systems frequently oppose federal aid to education because they believe that such a measure may lead to a national curriculum. The battle cry of schools is curriculum! Ironically, the school systems crying for grass-roots curriculum hope for a miracle to accomplish such a task for them. Most school systems do little or nothing to construct a grass-roots or community-based curriculum. The schools do little or nothing to relate students to their communities so that students may discover for themselves options and niches in their communities
