The author of the gospel of Matthew has interpolated women’s names in the genealogy of Jesus: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, the wife of Uriah (Bathsheba) and Mary. He interpolated those women’s names in order to convey to his community the image that Jesus has a genealogical relationship not only with Israel as the elected people of God but with all nations throughout the world. In other words, he endeavours to describe Jesus as the Saviour of all nations. This image was imparted by presenting the situation of his community as consisting not only of Jewish Christians but of non-Jews as well
