The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of generative artificial intelligence (GAI), the perceptions, benefits, and limitations that higher education students present, through a mixed approach with descriptive-correlational, experimental, cross-sectional, and exploratory design, applying interviews, questionnaires, observation, and documentary analysis to a sample of 62 students. The results reveal that 71% use GAI to expedite information searches and resolve doubts, highlighting its usefulness for generating personalized content. Among the limitations are the possibility of technological dependence and the risk of receiving erroneous or copyrighted information. The study provides academic value by offering evidence about the responsible use of GAI in educational environments. It is concluded that, despite its benefits, it is necessary to implement training strategies for ethical and critical use of this technology in university education
