Public opinion around the construction of significance of the term “feminicide” in Mexico

The concept of feminicide is relatively new; the Law on Women’s Access to a Life Free of Violence (2007) is one of the first official documents to mention it in Mexico. Understanding public opinion on this term, which describes the homicide and other violent deaths of women, is crucial. Through a longitudinal digital ethnography, we explore how the concept has been perceived over 12 years by analyzing content from a major Mexican newspaper. Our findings reveal the malleability of feminicide as an action, reality, and discourse.
