Despite the fact that wind and solar megaprojects have had significant growth after the Energy Reform in Mexico, their operation and the socioterritorial impacts they generate have not been sufficiently analyzed. Therefore, this work problematizes their functioning from Political Ecology and describes some of the transformations they generate in Mexican rural areas. A descriptive qualitative methodology has been employed, which articulates the professional experience as a consultant for these megaprojects with the official database on the Mexican energy landscape. The results show that the business model of energy megaprojects, the legal-political laxity in which they operate, and the socioterritorial effects they cause, make them an expanded form of exploitation of nature.
