For both academic and practical reasons, introductory public administration textbooks need to integrate scholarship on women into their traditional presentations. This paper explores how this scholarship can be integrated into textbook presentations on the history of the administrative state, public personnel policy, organization theory, and the representativeness of bureaucracy. Also explored in this paper is why such integration is important to students' understanding of the realities in today's public sector work force, how the work environment can be improved for owmen, and what role women have played in the growth of public administration
