Two rescue excavations carried out in Roanne in 1990, at the north-eastern limit of the antique vicus, shed some light on suburban occupation between the beginning of the first and the end of the IInd c. A.D. Among the most important discoveries was a late IInd or early IIIrd c. pottery kiln, and associated debris from which its typical produce could be identified ; others, which included traces of earlier structures — in particular the basement of a semi-sunken building and associated ditches — illustrate the variety in types of occupation of the site and their transformation over a long period
