Cet article présente le résultat des études archéobotaniques (charbon, pollen et graines) recueillies dans les fouilles de la villa romaine de San Marco (île d’Elbe). Ces données sont utilisées pour tracer le cadre végétatif autour de la villa pendant sa période d’existence, en particulier en se concentrant sur la sélection et l’utilisation spécifique de certains taxons, à la fois à des fins alimentaires, mais aussi fonctionnelles, mettant en lumière une extrême variété d’usages, qui correspond à des pratiques agro-sylvo-pastorales spécifiques. Une attention particulière est également portée à la présence du châtaignier, retrouvé en grande quantité sur le site, notamment pour la construction du deuxième étage et utilisé pour les poteaux lourds, ce qui amène à s’interroger sur les modalités de son introduction sur l’île
