This issue of Refuge provides a space for both participants and faculty of the 1999 Summer Course on Refugee Issues to share ideas on the broad themes related to the seven day intensive programme. Now in its 8th year, the Summer Course hosted a remarkably diverse group of participants and faculty from around the world. In addition to Canada, participants came from South Africa, Uganda, India, Australia, Belgium, Portunal, Germany, the United Kingdom as well as the United States and reflected the full spectrum of institutional, academic, legal and nongovernmental sectors. The papers included in this special issue reflect the diversity that is intrinsic to the course itself.
