single person (sedentary or not ?). The known distribution of these axes stretches along a 150 km line, from Médoc to Vendée. The findspots themselves are located either in the vicinity of the Charente basin (Mondouzil), or close to presently marshy areas, potentially open to circulation in the past (Chaix, Bégadan). The analysis shows these flat axes to be of copper with a moderate arsenic component and low content of other impurities. Although no archaeological context is yet known for these "giant" flat axes in Western France, the proposed date would be the Chalcolithic or the beginning of the Early Bronze Age
