Literary studies of these three Afro‐British authors have recognized the ironic strategies used in their anti‐slavery writings. But, there are at the same time ambiguities and ambivalences in their understandings of the moral and economic arguments against slavery, which relate to the social and cultural context of late eighteenth‐century Britain
