Manifest and Latent, two leading matinee concepts, somehow allowed themselves to be used for this dreary exercise. No matter how hard M and L tried to build suspense with their usual spirited interpretations, they tripped over the banal script. Within the first few minutes all suspense was eliminated, conjecturing about heroes and villains over, and the plot exposed. Surely, such talented troopers as M and L deserve better. A longer trial in the hinterlands might have led to appropriate changes in this vehicle. A wry eye, a subtle touch, and some degree of sophistication would have rescued this always interesting and controversial subject matter. However, in these trying times a single performance will probably lead to a revival! So break a leg
