She is a past president of the National Council on Public History and currently serves as Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the University of Hertfordshire. Her major publications include Places of Quiet Beauty: Parks, Preserves and Environmentalism (1997), Benjamin Shambaugh and the Intellectual Foundations of Public History (2002), and "All Men and Women are Created Equal": An Administrative History of Women's Rights National Historical Park (2012).
