Although calculations by the present writer, and published elsewhere, do not seek to raise Curtin's national totals in the years 1761-1810 by more than 11 %, an exception must be made for the North American slave-carrying trade. Quite good lists for the 1760's, and less good evidence for the subsequent two decades, enable us to project decennial export totals of 40,300, 35,900 and 17,800 respectively. For the ensuing twenty years the evidence is hardly satisfactory but projections from partial U.S. import data, calculations and from known Cuban imports enable us to justify a figure of 200,940 for the two decades, making 294,900 in ail, as against Curtin's figure of 166,900
