Marked hyperglycemia was induced immediately after post-sepsis induction, and the high-dose insulin treatment increased mortality post-induction. Stress-induced hyperglycemia could therefore be a physiological and protective response for preterm sepsis, and aggressive treatment of this hyperglycemia might be contraindicated
