Although neither comparative education nor sociolinguistics is in any way a new area of investigation within itself, the relationship between these two fields of enquiry seems to have gone relatively unexplored. In order to correlate the two it is proposed to examine in turn first the kinds of contribution that sociolinguistics might make in the study of comparative education, and then the reverse, the light comparative studies in education might throw on apparent anomalies in sociolinguistic research
