The forest resource is characterised by a continuous albeit low density of archaeological material with some high density nodes. The majority of what are termed 'sites' will have little or no inherent research potential. However considerable potential exists for examining the human response to the forested environment based on an examination of the regional spatial patterning of sites. Future research into forested environments is needed to develop predictive modelling to accurately define the regional spatial variability of this resource. This will be a useful tool in managing the archaeological resource so that we retain as much of its analytical potential as possible
