This report presents the strategy developed during a linear survey of the Dampier to Perth Gas Pipeline between 1980 to1982. Originally presented in the Archaeology section of ANZAAS in Sydney in 1982, this paper serves as a case study of a particular development project typical of the type frequently encountered by consultant archaeologists. It is offered here not because of any presumed innovations in survey strategy but rather to communicate a particular project through presenting some of the concerns associated with it. Â Â
