In September 1980 students and staff of the Macquarie University ‘Prehistoric Environments’ course surveyed an area near Belarabon, southwest of Cobar, for archaeological sites. The survey centred on a small usually wet lake known as Canegrass Lake or Bunda Lake. Sites were found to concentrate around the lake margins, with only very small scatters found along the small ephemeral streams away from the lake proper. Site patterning appears to have resulted from three main activities - general living and food preparation activities, tool manufacturing and maintenance, and stone material ‘extractive’ functions
