During the 1977 excavation season at Tel Michal (see article by Herzog, Negbi and Moshkovitz,pp. 113-115) a hoard of 47 Ptolemaic silver tetradrachms was unearthed on the southeastern hillock (Area C). Apart from two loose coins, they were found stuck together in a solid lump lying in the lower part of a tiny juglet of a type attributed to the Persian-Hellenistic period. The neck and shoulder of the juglet was missing. The size of the lump in relation to the assumed size and shape of the juglet leads to the conclusion that its neck was either already broken off before the coins were put into the juglet or was deliberately chopped off in order to widen the opening sufficiently to enable the rather large coins to be inserted
