Readers who have managed to get this far in the review of Local Realities, Local Adaptations and are now interested in reading Frederick Lighthall's book had best get on with that pleasant task. Lighthall critiques my theoretical framework and offers some alternatives. Inevitably, other readers will bring still other perspectives to their reading of the book and induce still other understandings in the process. It was ever thus. Lighthall's view of problem finding is too restricted for my scholarly and administrative tastes, but in observing this I really do not diminish his thoughtful research and intriguing research report. Hopefully, our dialog above will lead some readers to the book who might not otherwise have found it and provide some rough parameters for a read. May they enjoy the provocative quality of Local Realities, Local Adaptations (and its author) as much as I have
