Contrairement aux cas des Almoravides et des Almohades, le poids reel d'une mission religieuse n'est pas preponderant dans les motifs qui ont pousse les tribus merinides a occuper le Maroc au XIII s. Mais il ne faut pas non plus nier le facteur religieux, qui prend du relief quand les Merinides s'appuient sur les villes et leurs docteurs islamiques
