Resumo
This preface introduces a special issue of Social Anthropology dedicated to the question of "What is an animal?" It reflects on the changing relationship between humans and animals in the Anthropocene, highlighting the need to move beyond anthropocentric perspectives. The issue explores diverse approaches to understanding animals, including ethnographic studies, philosophical inquiries, and scientific research, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue.
