This article presents ‐‐ in two voices ‐‐ the experiences of participants in a series of life‐story interviews. It relates some discoveries about the demands of life‐story interview research. Technical and ethical issues are discussed, as well as the affective and cognitive dimensions of the experience. Through this presentation of two perspectives, the participants demonstrate some of the differences in what matters, and when it matters, depending on which side of the research story is being told
