[4] The group Socialisme et liberté was founded by Sartre and the philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty, who had already formed a groupuscule under the name Sous la botte. According to Sartre and Beauvoir, Socialisme et liberté was disbanded in the autumn of 1941 but one member, Dominique Desanti, insists it continued for a year beyond that date (see Desanti et al. 2004, p. 77). The play opened on 8 November 1946 at the Théâtre Antioine as part of a double bill with Morts sans sépulture. [6] Cited in M. Intellectuels et passions françaises: Manifestes et pétitions au XXe siècle, Paris: Fayard. [11] According to Daigle the texts of Sartre's which generate the most interest in ethics are his Cahiers pour une morale written between 1947 and 1948 and published posthumously by Gallimard in 1983. An English translation (by D. Pellauer) was published as Notebooks for an Ethics by The University of Chicago Press, Chicago and London, in 1992
