2The same period has also seen many unpublished postgraduate dissertations and theses on various aspects of French anarchism, the most important of which is doubtless the late Ren Bianco's 1988 study of the worldwide French-language anarchist press from 1880 to 1983, which is an essential research tool. 3But, apart from Biard's (1976) unevenly researched general history of the movement from 1945 to 1975, published studies have tended to be focused on specific campaigns or issues (e.g.Pattieu 2002; Boulouque 2003; Porter 2011 on Algeria and other colonial wars), partial and biographical or autobiographical (e.g.Fontenis 2000), limited by virtue of being focused on one area of activity (e.g.Maricourt 1990 on literature), or concerned with particular individuals, groups or organisations (e.g.Amors 2012 on the Situationists, Berry 2004a and 2004b on Daniel Gurin, Marin 2013 on Albert Camus, or Rival 2013 on the Union des Travailleurs Communistes Libertaires). These have all proved to be fruitful lines of research, but this is a rich seam of material which scholars have barely begun to mine. This introduction is therefore followed by a list of sources which is doubtless not comprehensive, but which it is hoped will nevertheless act as a useful research tool for scholars wishing to delve deeper into one or other aspect of the social, cultural and political history of anarchism in contemporary France
