This special issue on History and Heritage explores exciting new directions inheritage practice and interpretation, and the intersections between heritagestudies and Australian history. In line with recent scholarly thinking in thefield of critical heritage studies, this issue features articles that historicise andextend mainstream notions of heritage beyond sites and movable objects, toexplore broader questions around cultural knowledges, performance,memory and memorialisation, and affect. It also examines the impact ofdigital media on how we understand the past, and the importance of newnegotiations with communities and technologies in the representation andinterrogation of heritage sites and material culture
