This autoethnographic account traces my lifetime of performative experiences on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. In particular, it focuses upon how Bourbon Street has functioned to situate lust as an act, within limits, of giving permission to consider the forbidden, of offering alternative possibilities for living, of claiming possession of desire, and of giving pleasure. While recognizing the potential dangers of exploitation, the essay ends by celebrating this carnival space
