Interaction research implies opportunities for organising learning processes in the context of public administration. This article deals with the strategy and the practice of interaction research conceived as the art and craft of interpretation in public administration. The interaction researcher is defined, first and foremost, as an “interpreter.” The interaction researcher translates, decodes and encodes signs and messages between the public of administration and the administration of the public, between the theory of public administration and the practice of public administration. Conceived as such, as the art and craft of interpretation, interaction research can to some extent in fact support learning processes, as real-life cases of interaction research exemplify. Having been involved as an “interpreter” in such cases, the author reflects on the experience, the complexity and the potential of interaction research as interpretation
