This essay engages the theme of the symposium by suggesting that the environmental discourse provides an opportunity for reconsideration of the 20th century public administration discourse. Using Foucault’s concept of governmentality, the essay argues that public administration has been linked to industrialism throughout the 20th century. As such, the project of connecting public administration to ecocentrism may require changes in thinking and practices that would be tantamount to creating a new public administration discourse
