This essay deals with the best known texts of Machiavelli's political thought. We begin with that one or those ones ( since we can find some differences between them) which criticize the Florentine's work due to morality reasons. Next we discuss the texts of the ones who see our author as a torchbearer of the union of Italy. Then we set out the texts of those who think that he is a technician or a politics scientist. Then we deal with those who consider him a moment of the republican tradition or of the civic patriotism. Finally we set out the marxist interpretation based on the works on this matter of Gramsci, Althusser and Negri. Each text is followed by a more or less brief critical commentary
