This article explores the disarmament role of the Bougainville Peace Monitoring Group. In fulfilling the Bougainville peace agreement's narrow ‘guns in boxes’ approach to disarmament, the group focused on ex-combatants rather than wider community engagement. The article discusses the ramifications of this kind of approach to disarmament from a field practitioners' perspective, and considers the options for a holistic approach to disarmament
