The worldwide economic crisis of 2008 ushered in a transitional phase for immigration in Italy. This complex process brought far-reaching change to the situation for migrants, generated by an indissoluble link with rapid and vertiginous changes to international migrant flows owing to the conflicts that broke out across the Middle East and North Africa.
