Belligerent occupations are and will continue to be a prominent feature on the international scene. Unfortunately, there has been little specific development of rights and protections for populations living under occupation. The creation of jus post bellum as a new legally enforceable standard, greater access to competent courts and the identification of additional occupation rights are three means designed to remedy this oversight. Incorporating these proposals within a single ‘Occupation Document’ would make a significant contribution to the international legal regime and heighten the international community's awareness of the problems faced by occupied populations
