This article examines the reasons for and effects of the differing peritextual elements (especially photographs and packaging) between Fatima Mernissi's original autobiography (written in English for an American and European audience) and its translated Arabic version published in Morocco. It focuses on how and why such texts might be radically transformed to address a particular readership
