Claire Brennan’s review of Graham Joyner’s book Monster, Myth or Lost Marsupial? The Search for the Australian Gorilla in the Jungles of History, Science and Language (Canberra: Hayes UK & Thomas, 2009), appeared in History Australia. The author examines the historical, anthropological and linguistic evidence for the former existence of an unknown marsupial known as the Australian gorilla (or yahoo) while identifying systematic flaws in scientific thinking about zoological discovery. Brennan’s review is disappointing. She shows no interest in philosophical issues, provides little insight into the other problems discussed and makes a number of errors
