This article shows the extraordinary liveliness of debate in the field of Muslim minorities in the Middle Ages, more precisely in the Iberian Peninsula. In the past years, the field has changed from a local understanding of Mudejar as a specific Iberian category to a more comprehensive approach as one of many Muslim minorities. In this respect, a reassessment of the questions of distribution of population and languages used in communication was necessary, especially the emergence of Aljamiado and its use in combination with Arabic and the Romance vernaculars. Going forward, the field will continue to draw on new methodologies and findings to understand the phenomenon of Mudejar acculturation and resistances to assimilation
