Zhang Longxi is Chair Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation at the City University of Hong Kong and a leading scholar in World Literature and East-West cross-cultural studies. Appropriately enough, he has divided his time and career between China and America; having completed his MA at Peking University and his PhD. at Harvard before teaching at the University of California, Riverside, and the City University of Hong Kong. His publications, even the titles of which give some indication of the breadth of his research interests, include The Tao and the Logos: Literary Hermeneutics, East and West (Durham: Duke University Press, 1992); Mighty Opposites: From Dichotomies to Differences in the Comparative Study of China (Stanford: Stanford University Press, 1998); Out of the Cultural Ghetto (Hong Kong: Commercial Press, 2000; Beijing: Joint Publishing Co., 2004, in Chinese); Allegoresis: Reading Canonical Literature East and West (Ithaca: Cornell University Press, 2005); Unexpected Affinities: Reading across Cultures (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2007) and An Introduction to Comparative Literature (Shanghai: Fudan University Press, 2009, in Chinese). Most recently, he has written A Spiritual Epic: Paradise Lost (Taipei: Net and Books, 2010, in Chinese)
