This article analyzes the transformative trajectory of tea practice in an urban village in China, examining how evolving tea drinking and the tearoom foster communication in a relocated community undergoing urbanization. Grounded in the materiality approach and media geography perspective, it elucidates the communicative functions of tea-related objects. Drawing on ethnography, it shows how tea facilitates social interaction, identity negotiation, and cultural continuity. By positioning tea as a medium through urban villagers lived experiences, the study extends materiality studies beyond the Western-centric and technology-driven paradigms, offering lens that underscores the agency of local practices in a hybrid urban-rural environment
