1. “Old topic, but new perspectives”, is the first impression upon reading this book. As the author points out in the preface, although the international community has made many efforts to eradicate the scourge of child soldiering, these efforts “replay the same narratives and circulate the same assumptions” (p. vii). So, based on his long study of the subgroup—child soldiers—this book tries to take a second look at these efforts and provide a new approach to dealing with many critical issues concerning child soldiers under current international law and policy. It “aspires to refresh international law and policy to improve preventative, restorative and remedial initiatives while also vivifying the dignity of youth” (p. vii). 2. The author employs seven chapters to demonstrate his narrative. The first three chapters introduce a diversity of accounts of the realities of child soldiering that should be considered adequately by international lawyers and policymakers, and put forward a new approach for studying child soldiers. Chapters 4 and 5 discuss the accountability of child soldiers and accountability for child soldiering by analysing the attitude of international law and policy. Chapters 6 and 7 “suggest a variety of reforms to the content and trajectory of law and policy in light of the complex realities of child soldiering” (p. vii)
