Is It Worth Publishing a Scientific Journal of Political Science? The first 25 years of the 'Annals of the University of Bucharest. Political Science Series

The first issue of the new series of the political science collection of the Annals of the University of Bucharest (Analele Universității din București. Științe Politice) was published in 1999. For the last twenty five years the journal has been continuously published in print, while its online presence was established almost two decades ago. All its archive is online and it continues to be published both online and in print, in full open access format, without any fees for authors or readers. Currently, we are in the process of moving the entire online archive on the servers of the University of Bucharest Press, its publisher, strengthening thus its digital visibility beyond the current journal website (www.analefspub.eu). For this 25-year anniversary, as its second editor-in-chief, I reflect on the development of the journal and its future in an increasingly crowded market of academic publishing, under the various pressures, ranging from shifting institutional and professional standards to fraudulent practices and AI use. The analysis includes a bibliographical and biographical assessment of all published texts in all its volumes so far, as well as an evaluation of the editorial challenges we have encountered, in the larger context of global debates on the study of political science as a discipline
