In Greece most parents display significant concern for their children’s use of free time and spend large amounts of their time, energy and money in order to safeguard their participation to extra curricula activities. However, Greek sociologists, psychologists and education researchers have not sufficiently examined this field. The present study aims to provide a descriptive analysis of how Greek 15 and 16 year olds dispose their free time. More simply, its main focus lies in the question: What teenagers do when are not at school? For the collection of data, survey research with the questionnaire as the methodological tool was conducted in a sample size of 663 high school students. Two are the most important findings. First, that the adolescents’ available time is insufficient, as they follow a strict over-organized schedule on a daily basis, most of which is occupied by the attendance of couching-tutorial classes and the implementation of their homework. Second, that the disposal of this limited free time cannot be assessed as beneficial and creative, since it is usually spent to internal and unstructured passive activities which are related to negative or poor developmental outcomes
