Almost two decades have passed since a national study was undertaken in the United States to examine the status of women employed in parks and recreation. The purpose of the present article is to provide an overview of the current status of women within parks and recreation. The theoretical framework incorporates a career development model. Data were collected from 1146 professional women in parks and recreation during March 2010 via an online survey. The women were satisfied with their jobs but senior managers were more satisfied than those at other levels of employment. All women rated family/work/leisure balance issues as important. Gender equity issues were identified concerning unconscious discrimination. Results are compared to a similar study conducted in 1992, indicating small positive changes in women's career development opportunities over the past two decades
