Since October 2017, the #metoo movement has encouraged women to speak out about workplace sexual harassment. In the US more than 200 men have already been publicly accused of sexual misconduct, with more than 50 of them working in media/journalism; the list of accused men keeps growing. Harassers have especially targeted young women with little work experience as they have fewer resources to defend themselves and are less likely to complain. Given the implications of this pattern for university programs in journalism/media and communication, where internships are common and graduates face jobs precarity, media/journalism faculty and staff have an affirmative responsibility to address the continuing problem. We offer recommendations how media and communication can help students know their rights, stand up for themselves, and resist harassment
