This research studies interpersonal attraction among a multi‐ethnic group composed of 324 students, men and women, who lived in a university residence. A correlational and multiple regression analysis shows the relationship between different levels of attraction in pairs of individuals (these pairs being the unit of analysis), and degrees of homogeneity in these pairs with regard to nationality, length of residence, and proximity of residence. The results confirm balance theory: in both groups of women and groups of men interpersonal attraction is linked with similarity and reciprocity of choice. Relationships between men and women depend on different types of similarity.
