Abstract in English“A Common Destiny”. Norwegian European Policy Under SøreideThis article examines foreign minister Ine Eriksen Søreide’s European policy in the period 2017–2021. Based on the foreign minister’s own statements to the Norwegian Parliament, the article demonstrates how European policy under Søreide contained elements of both continuity and rupture. Like her predecessors, Søreide presented Norway’s relationship with the EU as an interest-driven relationship based on common values, but at the same time she added greater importance to the relationship with the EU than other foreign ministers have done in the past. The article also shows that Søreide’s portrayal of Norway’s room for maneuvering in this relationship differed markedly from the Stoltenberg II government’s emphasis on the right of reservation. We also show how ideas of the EU and maneuvering room can help shed light on the social security scandal
