Sillanka is a dialect of Soninke spoken by a little community in north-central Burkina Faso. Its linguistic enclave status is confirmed by its context: it is a minority Mande language surrounded by languages of the Gur and Atlantic groups, Mooré and Fulfulde respectively. The case of Sillanka is further characterized by the fact that only part of its ethnic community has preserved the language: the Nobles have apparently given up their language voluntarily while the Slaves have retained it. From a grammatical point of view, the comparison of Sillanka with the Soninke dialects of Bakel and Kaedi gives interesting insights into certain aspects of phonology and morphosyntax
