Today, anyone with adequate financial means can participate in the world of luxury through consumption. Yet, production of luxury remains concentrated in a few specific geographic locations, mostly in Europe. France and Italy are preeminent luxury producers because of production processes and legal frameworks that guarantee products of the finest quality and craftsmanship and set in place several centuries ago. Countries’ competitive advantage in the marketplace, and the luxury sector in particular, is the result of philosophical and political frameworks established at the dawn of modernity. Germanic culture, for example, has placed greater emphasis on scientific and engineering discoveries, which might explain why these fields still determine the type of superior products manufactured in Germany today (cars, engines of any type, laboratory instruments, photographic cameras etc.). A case study on German publishing house Steidl Verlag is presented with the aim to articulate key ideas on luxury business strategy that have been absent from the existing business literature and to highlight the importance of creative strategy in product-driven luxury brands
