I Dream of Prison

This is an autoethnographic exploration of some of my experiences in prisons in both Mexico City and England. My writing is a way for me to try to understand my journey in the light of my research as a feminist criminologist, a tool for me to begin to comprehend my journey, deconstruct my trauma, and outline how I overcame my incarceration-based trauma (IBT). The essay shines a light on how women who have been imprisoned, long after their release, continue to carry the echoes of prison as trauma responses. Autoethnography is a means to explore and contextualize my experiences in a manner that makes them relevant and meaningful to the wider social fabric, as above, so below
