Several studies have examined (a) aspects of teachers' personal adjustment (2, 6) or ( b ) relationships between personality traits and teaching effectiveness (7, 9) . Teachers' mental health needs have been stressed (1, 8), and pupil behavior annoying to welland poorly-adjusted teachers has been studied (3) . Kaplan's ( 5 ) survey found that teachers reported many disturbing problems associated with the teaching role; these difficulties seem to fall mainly in two interpersonal contexts: relationships with children in school and relationships with adults in the educational or community setting. Although it appears reasonable to think that teachers' difficulties in interpersonal relations may be related to more general aspects of psychological adjustment, empirical evidence on the point seems scarce. Therefore, the central problem posed in this investigation was: what relationships exist between teachers' adjustment to children and to adults on the one hand and certain psychological adjustment characteristics of teachers on the other? Aspects of psychological adjustment were measured with the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory ( MMPI ) and ad jusunent to children and adults was assessed using Kaplan's ( 5 ) Teacher Adjustment Inventory (TAI)
